Kassia Meador embodies grace, balance, style and beauty all in a petite 105-pound frame. A professional American longboarder who learned to surf in Malibu, California at the tender age of 14, where she discovered a talent for cross stepping and nose riding perfectly tapered waves. "Growing up in Westlake Village, a 25-minute drive from the beach, afforded me a late start into the surfing world," noted Meador. However after winning the first contest she ever entered, the ROXY Wahine Classic at San Onofre, CA, Kassia continued to climb the rankings in the professional world of women?s long boarding competition. Always an athlete, Meador has surfed four to five times a week since she was 15.
For the past several years, Kassi (as her friends like to call her) has continued to compete and travel the world perfecting her effortless style while being respected and admired as one of the best longboarders, male or female, in the history of surfing. "The best thing about surfing is how free it is. There are no rules and restrictions. All you need is a board and the willingness to go," says Meador. Her solid talent and character, both in and out of the water, have been hugely influential to the sport. Kassi has been a major face for the ROXY brand since joining the team back in 1997. She has been on numerous photo shoots, boat trips and has been a crucial part of ROXY events. This young star carries her poise everywhere she goes; combining her radiant smile, contagious laughter and love for the ocean in everything she does. Even with her dozen surfboards, half-a-dozen skateboards, boxes of gear, and colossal trophies, Kassi isn't too imposing.
Kassi's surfing success has given her the opportunity to explore her other talents. She started her own production company, Stardust Productions, in 2005 and debuted her first movie "Fashion" a quirky flick about surfing, women, life and fashion. Last December, she finished the design of her signature longboard model with Donald Takayama. Kassi has also been taking courses in the art of photography and has been working hard at this new passion, with several recent exhibitions showcasing her work including the Green Room Festival in Japan. These days, Kassia is spending her days planning trips, whether it is Japan, Morocco, Australia, Europe or Indo, working on her signature line of wetsuits with Roxy Japan and her skateboard with Mervin Manufacturing.
