ROXy chicken jam 2010
The 2010 Roxy Chicken Jam was held at Mammoth Mountain, CA, from March 25th to 28th. Progressive riding, sunny skies and large crowds were all part of the fun at this year's event. Roxy Chicken Jam is the final and only stand-alone female 6 Star event of the TTR World Tour snowboarding season for women. The 2009/2010 Swatch TTR Tour Champion was crowned today at the RCJ following results from the contest at Mammoth Mountain, CA.
Over 100 girls from more than 15 different countries competed in the Slopestyle and Superpipe competitions at the Roxy Chicken Jam. This year the pipe was 21 feet tall, giving the riders the speed they needed to go big. In the Superpipe competition, Kelly Clark came in first and took home $15,000. She threw down a major frontside 9 and frontside 7 to cab 7. She had the highest amplitude and the most difficult run of the group. Rana Okada came in second for $7,000 and Elena Hight in third for $3,000.
The Slopestyle course had six different features, making it much more advanced than last year's. In the Slopestyle competition, Jamie Anderson came in first and took home $15,000, Janna Weatherby came in second for $7,000 and Jenny Jones in third for $3,000. Jamie Anderson's winning run was a back 5, switch back 5 and a cab 5. Boardside 720 off the rail. It was really clean, really big and with great style.
"The surprising thing was how difficult it was to judge because everyone did so well," said Phoebe Mills, head judge of the competition. One of the best tricks of the day was by 4th place Cheryl Mass, a corked backside 7 off the first hit, truly massive and really styled.
Zumiez Best Trick during the Superpipe competition went to Kelly Clark for her front side 900. The Zumiez Best Trick for the Slopestyle competition went to Raewyn Reid for her 50/50 to a backside 180. Both riders took home $1,500 from Zumiez.
In between the women's events the memorable Mascot Superpipe Competition entertained the spectators. Trevor Jacob, the NPB Cable Cheetah, won the Mascot Superpipe competition and took home $3,000. Second place went to the Pink Bunny, Spencer Whitting, and third went to the Hot Dog, Luke Wynen. They won $2,000 and $1,000 respectively.
The event finished up with the crowning of the 2009/2010 Swatch TTR Women's World Champion and a free concert in the Village at Mammoth Mountain with The Bravery and N.A.S.A. Roxy newcomer Enni Rukajärvi scored 858.11 to become the 2009/2010 TTR World Snowboard Champion. She took home $50,000. Second place went to Sina Candrian and third to Sarka Pancochova.
